Enmasse - a day spa with a difference
Having experienced many massages in spas around Cape Town, I have to say that enmasse really does offer a unique experience. Well firstly its not a spa at all, but a beautiful space where you can have a fully clothed Thai massage and once inside, you completely forget about the outside world. From the dark interiors, amazing scent as you walk in, to the clothes hangers, white cotton pj’s, haviana’s and perfect lighting – they have a very different concept and have done it extremely well. I had booked an hour’s reflexology- which I have not had in years and as I walked in, for a moment regretted not having booked a massage- for some reason thought the relaxation would be better…
Was shown to a lounger, covered a lovely soft blanket, had a cloth placed over my eyes - I mention this because as simple as it seems - no one else does it - it allows you to really loose yourself in the moment, by taking away all the light and completely relaxing- and that I did. After my first leg was finished, I actually could not feel it, as painful as reflexology can be, its so pleasurable at the same time, saying that, Nuna, who was doing the treatment, knew her business.
After an hour of complete bliss, I floated downstairs with my new legs to the tea lounge to choose a tea- they have around 50 from which to choose. I have to say at this point a glass of wine would probably have been preferable- but it felt really healthy having the tea and its so beautifully presented, you cannot resist.
I cant wait to go back to En Masse, not sure if I will be able to book anything except reflexology, as this is definitely my new love, but there is something for everyone. On a previous occasion, my friend fell asleep after the Thai massage and they just covered her with a blanket and left her to sleep - that’s just what de-stressing from the modern world should be like.
