15 Years Later - And Still Going Strong

Dear Friends and Supporters

Today is the celebration of 15 years of redefining city sophistication in the Cape Town hospitality. 15 years ago (5 November 1997) Kensington Place opened its doors to the public and, as the owner, I knew very little about the industry. Perhaps this is why we’ve always done things a little differently. Nevertheless, as a team, it was our combined passion for style, hospitality and the Mother City that has helped us grow this small private hotel into an internationally celebrated destination for the well- heeled.

The many prestigious accolades we have received over the years (including Tatler Travel Guide’s ‘Best City Boutique Hotel’) have been testament to our commitment to laid-back city luxury. The many global travelers well-heeled friends who continue to insist on Kensington Place remain the most cherished barometer of our continued success however.

As with all matters of service and of taste, excellent people remain at the heart of Kensington Place’s success to date. Most notably amongst these has been our General Manager, Sasha Fernandes, who has looked after every guest with her own distinct brand of thoroughness and charm. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to this esteemed member of the Kensington Place team. She leaves behind a remarkable track record and, with it, considerable shoes to fill.

As I say farewell to Sasha and wish her every success in her new venture, I would like also to welcome Austen Johnston, who will shortly be heading up our management team, at Kensington Place. Austen, who will be leaving Ellerman House to join us, comes highly recommended from many stalwarts in the industry. With his imminent arrival, we look forward to a new era of fresh energy coupled with new creativity, inspiration and the ongoing commitment to excellence which defines Kensington Place.
